This week, we are incredibly proud to turn the website spotlight on our Chief Financial Officer, a master of financial stewardship, and a true champion for our families: Maricel Johns!
From Multi-State Moves to the Financial Helm: Maricel’s Journey
Maricel’s deep commitment to service has been a constant thread throughout her life—from volunteering with Marian Helpers in middle school, Kiwins in high school, and her service-based college sorority, Delta Phi Gamma, to leading communications and community engagement for Goodwill Industries across both South Texas and Arkansas.
After moving to our community in the summer of 2023, she was eager to establish firm roots. In her first year, Maricel served as Chief Charitable Officer for the Nellis Area Spouses’ Club Charitable Association, expertly overseeing the thrift shop, volunteer program, and charitable grant initiatives.
She later transitioned to the role of Chief Financial Officer with NACA. This vital pivot allowed her to continue driving the organization’s core mission forward while maintaining a healthy balance between her professional commitments and her family life.
Legacy of Learning: High Stakes and Heavy Impact
Behind the scenes, Maricel’s role carries a massive mental load that might surprise outsiders. Managing large-scale income streams, maintaining precise accounting, and ensuring complex funds are properly distributed requires immense mental math and detail-oriented focus.
Out of all the incredible initiatives she balances, our Scholarship Program holds the absolute closest place to her heart.
The shift from “something I’m helping with” to “this is where I’m meant to be” clicked profoundly for Maricel during a recent scholarship awards luncheon. Witnessing the hard work of our volunteers and employees translate directly into $42,000 of scholarships awarded to resilient military families was unforgettable—especially as it marked our first major event since the pandemic. Every single time she writes a check to a non-profit, she knows it is a direct investment back into our people.

Being a military spouse comes with so many complex layers. Having moved 13 times over the last 19 years—spanning several states, overseas assignments, and even sparking a personal passion for real estate—Maricel knows the unique strains of this lifestyle intimately. It is this exact journey that shaped the fierce way she advocates for our families.
If Maricel had to describe the true spirit of NACA in just one word, it would be Supportive. While some people still traditionally think of us as just a "spouse club," she is incredibly proud to showcase how much we have evolved. Through robust scholarships, targeted grants, and diverse programs, NACA exists to uplift the base in every way possible.
